Location
The Hilton Birmingham Metropole Hotel boasts a fantastic location, particularly for those attending concerts at Resorts World Arena or events at nearby NEC. It's even within walking distance of the NEC, making it a convenient choice for those attending Crufts or the Spring Fair. The hotel is also located close to the train station and airport, making transportation a breeze. Guests rave about the modern, clean rooms and the fabulous staff at breakfast. In addition to the great location, the hotel offers on-site restaurants, a pool and a casino. It's no wonder guests say the location, access and hotel itself are perfect!
Breakfast
Guests of the Hilton Birmingham Metropole Hotel were impressed with the breakfast selection offered. The food was deemed delicious and freshly cooked with a fantastic variety and exceptional quality. However, some guests found the buffet items cold and others were disappointed with the lack of options for non-pork eaters. The location of the breakfast room was a bit small and some guests had to wait for a table to become free. Still, there was plenty of seating available and the staff were notably friendly and attentive. Overall, the breakfast was deemed excellent value for money and a great start to the day.
Dinner
Guests at the Hilton Birmingham Metropole Hotel had mixed feelings about the hotel's dining options. While some enjoyed the food in the bar and were pleased with the menu, others found the Arbor buffet to be terrible and the a la carte menu lacking in options. Many guests felt that the food and drink prices were too high for the quality of the meals they received. The Gild Bar was particularly disappointing with reports of a rubbish meal and very basic, untasty food. Additionally, the restaurant was extremely crowded with guests often having to share tables. Some guests had issues with the comfort of their bed as well. One guest expressed confusion about the presence of hot dogs, chilli and nachos on a supposed a la carte menu, adding further to the displeasure of some patrons.
Rooms
Guests had a mixed experience with the rooms at the Hilton Birmingham Metropole Hotel. Some found them to be excellent with comfortable beds and lovely clean spaces, while others found them to be dated and basic with old furnishings, poor lighting and unappealing bathrooms. There were also complaints about malfunctioning amenities, such as showers and heating and some guests were disappointed to find that their chosen room wasn't available or had been downgraded. However, many praised the cleanliness of the rooms and the comfortable beds, while others appreciated the spaciousness and useful amenities. The hotel has recently refurbished some of the rooms and bar areas, but there were still complaints about worn out furnishings and décor. In general, while some rooms were lovely and lived up to expectations, others were basic and not worth the high price tag.
Beds
The Hilton Birmingham Metropole Hotel offers guests an array of comfortable beds to ensure a great night's sleep. From firm mattresses to king size and even huge beds, there's something for everyone. While some guests found the pillows to be too soft, the majority appreciated the ample supply of soft pillows provided. The rooms are nice and dark at night, ensuring a peaceful sleep for all. However, a few guests found the bed to be too hard or likened it to a brick. On the whole, the reviews suggest that the beds at the Hilton Birmingham Metropole Hotel are comfortable and clean, providing guests with a great night's sleep.
Cleanliness
The Hilton Birmingham Metropole Hotel is a great choice for travelers seeking good facilities, modern and stylish decor and clean, comfortable rooms. Most guests were pleased with the cleanliness of the hotel, noting that the rooms and bathrooms were lovely and spotless. However, a few guests did experience some issues with cleanliness such as dirty pools, sauna, black mould around bathroom seals and black hair left on the bath. Despite these issues, the general cleanliness and attention to detail were mentioned as exceptional and the hotel's cleaners were praised for their hard work. Overall, the Hilton Birmingham Metropole Hotel is a clean and accommodating option for travelers, offering clean rooms with comfortable beds and modern amenities.
Staff
The staff at Hilton Birmingham Metropole Hotel received rave reviews from guests. Michael, the porter, was singled out for praise, along with the concierge, breakfast team, dining area, bar and restaurant staff. Reviews consistently describe the staff as friendly, helpful, accommodating, professional and knowledgeable. However, some guests experienced issues with certain staff members being rude or slow. Overall, the majority of guests found the staff to be exceptional, providing 10/10 service. The hotel's location, restaurants, pool and parking were also commended by guests.
Pool
The Hilton Birmingham Metropole Hotel boasts fantastic leisure facilities that guests absolutely love! The pool and spa area are particularly enjoyable with many guests appreciating the great size of the pool, especially for children. The pool looked incredibly inviting and many guests found it to be amazing. The indoor pool area has also received high praise with many describing it as a fantastic space. Those seeking relaxation will appreciate the hot tub, which many guests have found to be a great addition. The gym and other leisure facilities were also noted as being good. Overall, the pool and leisure facilities at the Hilton Birmingham Metropole Hotel are definitely worth checking out!
Parking
When it comes to parking, the Hilton Birmingham Metropole Hotel has a lot of options available. There is a huge car park at the hotel that guests can use but it does come with a cost of £14 per night. Some guests thought this was expensive and would have preferred the parking charge to be included in the booking. The hotel does offer free parking on occasion, though, as compensation for other issues. Despite the cost, many guests found the parking easy and ample. One thing to note is that the advertised parking cost online can differ from what is charged at the hotel. It's also important to mention that some guests had trouble communicating with reception regarding the parking and didn't appreciate the price of the car park. Overall, having its own car park is a good thing for this hotel, especially as it is close to the NEC and other venues.
4 Star
The Hilton Birmingham Metropole Hotel receives mixed reviews from guests who stayed at the four-star rated property with some describing their experience as exceptional and others finding it disappointing given the price. The facilities and services provided for business travelers are commended with good location and a passable overall experience. However, feedback highlights certain areas which require improvement including the very small and outdated bathroom, unclean surroundings and a lack of communication about the housekeeping schedule. Although the hotel is described as being great, it is also seen as an overpriced, upmarket Premier Inn rather than a luxury five-star accommodation.
Accessible
Although the Hilton Birmingham Metropole Hotel is convenient for a one-night stay and ideal for the NEC, the hotel is not sufficiently accessible for wheelchair users. There is no easy route to an accessible toilet, no lowered check-in desk and the bed is too high. Not to mention the desk design that wheelchair users could not fit around and no non-slip flooring in the bathroom. One guest with a disability booked an accessible room, but it was not fit for purpose. On the bright side, the concierge was great and helped with luggage, but signs to find room numbers were not great. Moreover, there were no euro plugs in the rooms and the Brightsmith menus were illegible. Additionally, the shower had a very deep step down of at least 12”/30cm and was too close to the toilet, making it unsafe to get out.
